Babies get upset stomachs. It is a fact of nature. No matter how careful we are as parents about what we feed to our babies, and no matter how careful the breastfeeding woman is about what she eats, every baby will have some stomach pain at some point or another. A baby’s digestive system is still developing, and that means that there are going to be times when things just don’t feel right. There will be some foods that won’t sit well with your baby, and there will be times that a gas bubble will get stuck or when reflux will cause pain.
As parents, we want to do whatever we can to ease our baby’s stomach pain. Still, many of the medications used for stomach pain or gastrointestinal issues that are sold today have unwanted side effects, or may have artificial ingredients that, while they may not be harmful necessarily, we still may not want our baby to be exposed to. So, many parents have tried to ease their baby’s stomach pain more naturally, through the use of herbal remedies such as are contained in gripe water.
Gripe water contains several different herbs that are thought to be able to ease your baby’s stomach pain naturally. For example, fennel is one of the ingredients that is most often found in gripe water. Fennel has been used for many years, for both adults and for babies, to treat stomach pain, upset stomach, gas, and even the hiccups. Gripe water will also often contain ginger. Ginger is another herb that has been frequently used for gastrointestinal issues, and many pregnant women have even found relief from their morning sickness using ginger. Gripe water will often include something like sodium bicarbonate which helps to decrease the acidity of the stomach, and helps with gas as well. As you can see, the ingredients in gripe water present a naturally-based option for helping to ease your baby’s stomach pain.
