Calm your crying baby

Helping you learn how to calm your baby's colic.

Safety Blankets and SIDS Prevention

In addition to placing your baby on his or her back to sleep, another recomendation in order to reduce the risk of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) is to eliminate fluffy, loose bedding from your baby's sleep area. This includes, pillows, blankets, comforters, bumper pads, sheepskins, positioners, stuffed toys and all other soft products. These types of things in bed with your baby prevents the carbon dioxide, that your baby breaths out, less able to disappate and builds up causing a potentially life threatening situation. Re-breathing carbon dioxide has been identified as a leading cause of SIDS. It is important to keep the air around your sleeping baby as fresh and clean as possible, and to eliminate any potential for their face to come in close proximity to items that might block fresh air flow, especially once they begin moving around during sleep.

Two ways to help prevent the build up of Carbon Dioxide in your baby's crib are:

  1. Put your baby to sleep on his or her back.

  2. Use a blanket, like the BeddieBye Safety Blanket, which can not cover the face if you baby is a restless sleeper.
